Official Report: 96-3121 Puahala Street, Pahala Structure Fire

Cause: accidental/misuse of equipment
Company 11 responded to a report a structure fire. Upon arrival found a single story home 50% involved with fire. Single occupant self evacuated with no injuries.
Company 11 responded to a single family home structure fire. Fire was started unintentionally by occupant who was clearing pests with a torch. Upon arrival flames had spread through the entire interior of the house. Fire crews quickly attacked the fire from the exterior as well as making entry into the structure. Fire was contained to the structure of origin with no damage spread to the surrounding homes. Occupant was self extricated from the home with no injuries. In the process of extinguishing the fire multiple propane tanks and gas cans were found inside the residence. Hawaii County Fire would like to remind all individuals to practice safe use of fire and flammable objects near their home and store these items in proper areas. Also to have smoke detectors installed and home fire extinguishers on hand.
