BANYAN TREE
Large Banyan tree across all lanes of Kilauea Ave. and on portion of Calvary Chapel Hilo. One vehicle on roadway found under branches.
HFD and HPD units responded to a downed banyan tree on Kilauea Ave. in the area of Calvary Chapel Hilo. Responding units found a large banyan tree had fallen across all lanes of Kilauea Ave. and on a portion of The Calvary Chapel Hilo. One vehicle was found on roadway under branches, with occupants having exited vehicle prior to first responders arrival. Multiple utility poles and power lines were down on roadway as a result of fallen tree. Surrounding area was searched and evacuated. Calvary Chapel, which sustained damage from tree, was searched and cleared. Bystander videos of tree falling was reviewed to account for pedestrians or other vehicles under the tree. HFD drone used to obtain an aerial survey of incident. Scene turned over to HPD, HELCO, DPW, and Hawaiian Telcom.
