The National Weather Service High Surf Advisory for south facing shores of Hawaii Island remains in effect through Monday from Keahole Point in North Kona District to Cape Kumukahi in Puna District.

Surf has increased overnight and is higher than normal. Shore break and dangerous currents could cause injury or death.

Due to the high surf the following beach parks are closed in North Kona District;

Kahalu`u, La`aloa (Magic Sands), and Kohanaiki.

Surf is forecast to increase through today.

Other beach parks may close without notice.

Beach-goers, swimmers, surfers, and campers along south facing shores should exercise caution, be aware of your surroundings, and heed all advice given by Ocean Safety Officials.

USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports that precursory low-level activity for Episode 49 of the ongoing Hale Ma`uma`u eruption began this morning. The Volcano Alert has been raised to Watch as main fountaining is expected.
