High Wind & Surf Advisories
This is a Civil Defense message.
This is a High Surf message for Monday, December 10th at 6:30 in the morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for north facing shores of Kona, Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo, and Puna.
The surf is forecasted to continue through Thursday morning.
Due to high surf, the following are in effect:
- Oceanfront residents and beach-goers along the affected shores are advised to be on the alert for high and dangerous surf.
- Boat owners and oceanfront residents should take action to secure their property.
- Roads and beach closures may occur without notice.

…WIND ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST TUESDAY…
- WINDS…East 20 to 35 mph with localized gusts up to 55 mph are
forecast over portions of Maui and the Big
Island. -
TIMING…Currently in effect until Tuesday evening.

IMPACTS…Winds this strong can knock down tree branches, cause
car doors to slam, and result in sporadic power outages.
Instructions: A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected. Motorists should use extra caution especially in high profile vehicles.

MOLOKAI MAUI AND THE BIG ISLAND….
.The large north-northwest swell will gradually decline from west
to east across the island chain today, with surf along exposed
north and west facing shores following suit. Along east facing
shores, rough and choppy surf is expected for most of the week due
to persistent and strong trade winds.
…HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST THURSDAY…
...HIGH SURF WARNING IS CANCELLED…
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf
Advisory, which is in effect until 6 AM HST Thursday. The High
Surf Warning has been cancelled.

SURF…10 to 15 feet along north facing shores of Kauai, Oahu,
Molokai, Maui and the Big Island. 6 to 10 feet along east
facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island. -
TIMING…through noon today for north facing shores of Kauai,
Oahu, and Molokai. Through 6 PM this evening for north facing
shores of Maui and the Big Island. Through 6 AM Thursday for
east facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big
Island. -
IMPACTS…Moderate…Expect strong breaking waves, shore
break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming
difficult and dangerous.
Instructions: Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Know your limits; when in doubt, don`t go out.
