HONOLULU — Hawaiian Electric invites the public to learn about the details regarding its plan to repower the Waiau Power Plant in Pearl City at a community meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 16 at Waiau Elementary School at 98-450 Hookanike St.
Hawaiian Electric says the project to repower the Waiau Power Plant will strengthen resiliency and contribute to the state’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045
The company proposes to reuse the existing infrastructure to avoid new land development and reduce cost and community impact
As the old generators are decommissioned, the new CT units will be installed in pairs so that there will always be power feeding Oahu’s electric grid
In addition, Hawaiian Electric seeks feedback on its 253-megawatt project that includes a “community benefits package” providing $3,000 per megawatt, per year, to community programs once the project is up and running
