…HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI MAUI AND BIG ISLAND UNTIL 6 AM HST MONDAY… …COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT IN EFFECT FOR ALL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS THROUGH MONDAY MORNING… .Large surf along east facing shores will continue to remain rough and choppy in response to strong trade winds over and upstream of the Hawaiian Islands. Peak monthly tides, in tandem with higher east shore water levels, will produce minor coastal flooding typical in more vulnerable, low lying areas during the pre-dawn high tides. * WHAT…For the High Surf Advisory, 8 to 12 foot surf. For the Coastal Flood Statement, a combination of high east surf and elevated water levels that could produce nuisance coastal flooding. * WHERE…Eastern exposures and low lying coastal areas in Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and Big Island. * WHEN…For the High Surf Advisory, until 6 AM HST Monday. For the Coastal Flood Statement, through Monday morning high tide. * IMPACTS…Flooding of beaches that are normally dry, minor coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation. Moderate. Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous.

Instructions

Avoid driving through flooded roadways. If you are forced to drive through salt water, be sure to rinse your vehicle with fresh water. Move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps. Secure canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches.
