She is a claimant princess of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Her claim derives through her maternal great-great grandmother Theresa Owana Laanui who was great-great-great granddaughter of Keoua Kalanikupuapaikalaninui the father of king Kamehameha the Great. Her younger half-brother, Prince Noa, is her mother’s only son.Princess Kapumahana Kaahumanu was the step-great-great-great-great-grandniece of Queen Kaahumanu due to her great-great-great-great grandfather, Gideon Peleioholani Laanui’s marriage to the Queen’s sister Lydia Namahana Pi’ia. Princess Kapumahana Ka’ahumanu Walters was Miss Hawaii Teen USA in 1997.

He is most notable for his service as Republican United States Senator from 1959 to 1977, and for being the first Asian-American and Chinese American to be elected as such. In 1964, Fong became the first Asian-American to run for his party’s nomination for President of the United States. To date, he is the only Republican to ever hold a Senate seat from Hawaii and was the only Asian-American to seek the presidential nomination of the Republican Party until Bobby Jindal in the 2016 primaries.
