Civil Defense message for Tuesday 01-09-2024 09:19 AM.
The National Weather Service extended the Flood Advisory for the following districts: Ka`u, North Kohala, North Kona, Puna, South Kohala, South Kona through 12:30 pm today.
A Flood Advisory means minor flooding is imminent or occurring.
Closures include Hwy 11 near the 92 mile marker in the South Kona District and Mahukona Warf in North Kohala District. Additional closures may occur without warning.
Due to the Flood Advisory, be advised:
- Flooding can be life-threatening. Residents in flood prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions.
- Please drive with caution. Be on the alert for run-off, ponding of water, debris, and poor visibility.
- Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around, don’t drown.
- Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
