Kohala Food Hub Associate Job Description
Summary
The Associate position is Kohala Food Hub’s entry level position. We are a growing and
dynamic organization with opportunities for advancement. To succeed in this role, you must be
hands on at the job site, work efficiently and at a quick pace, have a knack with people, be
digitally and mathematically competent, work within Google Workspace and various other tech
platforms, and deliver excellent customer care. The Kohala Food Hub Associate performs
hands-on work at the job site, off site on deliveries, in the field at participating farms and
organizational partners as needed, and some administrative work both at the job site and
remotely. The Kohala Food Hub Associate is responsible to perform some duties of other team
members when necessary or assigned. While prior experience in food systems and the local
agricultural field is of great benefit to this position, it is not absolutely necessary.

Kohala Food Hub Executive Director, Director of Operations and Market Supervisor.
Kohala Food Hub Overview:
Kohala Food Hub is an aggregator, distributor, marketer and online marketplace of locally grown
and produced food based in North Kohala. It is a mission-based organization focused on
building food security and resilience on Hawai’i Island by providing essential services for
locally-based farmers and food businesses to increase local food production, increasing
community access to healthy locally grown food, and serving vulnerable populations in our
community with free locally grown produce. Kohala Food Hub helps to build our local food
system, strengthen our rural economy, and support regenerative agricultural practices that
preserve the land and our natural environment for future generations. It is located in Hawi. More

Primary Duties:
● Receive, portion, and pack locally grown and made foods for distribution to community
program recipients, wholesale accounts, and retail accounts
● Deliver food to household doorsteps, pick-up locations and wholesale accounts
● Pick up food at farms and bringing to the Kohala Food Hub site
● Process local produce into value-added products including juices, dehydrated fruits,
minimally processed foods, cold and hot meals and more
● Clean and sanitize at the aggregation location (workspace, delivery vehicle(s), food
processing equipment and supplies, restroom)
● Perform trash, compost and recycling runs to transfer station
● Maintain food safety protocols and good agricultural practices

● Maintain temperature logs and cleaning checklists
● Administrative duties including working with email, text, phone call, Google Workspace
and Local Food Marketplace
● Communication with customers, producers and fellow staff as needed and directed
● Assist farmers with cleaning and sanitizing produce and eggs
● Install and post signage and flyers
● Perform other duties as may be assigned by management
Skills and Personal Traits Required:
● Reliable, trustworthy and positive
● Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
● Competent mathematical skills and logic
● Working knowledge of local agriculture and locally grown produce
● Able to follow directions including food safety instructions and Covid safety instructions
● Self-starter and self-directed: able to work well independently and with the existing team
Qualifications:
● Minimum of one year’s experience working with Internet, Email, Text Messaging,
Microsoft Office, Google Workspace or equivalent.
● Free of criminal background that bears a rational relationship to the job
● High School Diploma or equivalent (Required).
Working Conditions:
● The Kohala Food Hub facility is a partially covered outdoor space where work is required
in various temperatures and weather, administrative duties must at times be conducted
in Kohala Food Hub’s packing area and office and at other times from the employee’s
home office.
● Able to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs., push, pull, and carry for long periods of time
● Reliable transportation and use of personal vehicle, laptop and cell phone to perform
some job duties.
Schedule and Compensation:
● $18/hour starting compensation
● Part-time – 8-20 hours/week:
○ Starting schedule: 4 hours on Tuesdays (afternoons), 4 hours on Wednesdays
(mornings)
○ Strong Potential for additional weekly hours to accommodate Kohala Food Hub’s
rapid growth, to cover other team members when sick and on vacation and/or
other special projects
● Staff discount rate on all LFM online market orders
● Mileage: compensation for use of personal vehicle for deliveries, farmer site visits,
off-site meetings, some supply procurement at prevailing IRS Rate.
