Kona Aloha Singers Sets 2024 Spring Concert April 20

KEAUHOU-KONA, HAWAII ISLAND—The Kona Aloha Singers (KAS), an adult

contemporary/popular music chorus, presents “Springtime Showstoppers” 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa in Keauhou.

 

Featuring 30 singers and 10 musicians, the chorus is performing songs by Beyoncé, Katy Perry, The Beach Boys and Earth Wind &Fire. Enjoy selections from the musicals “Hair,” “Wicked,” “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Funny Girl.”

 

The chorus welcomes special guest soloists Kala‘e Parish, a multi-Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner and Native Hawaiian country artist, and Kenny Tagavilla, 2023 Na Hoku Hanohano finalist for both Entertainer of the Year and Most Promising Artist. Comedian Justine Smith is serving as emcee.

 

KAS artistic director Delaney Yuko McGrath doubles as the drama and theater director at HPA. She studied classical voice at the Manhattan School of Music, earned a B.A. in ethnomusicology (study of music through an anthropological or cultural lens) from Barnard College at Columbia University, and holds an M.S. in education from the University of Edinburgh. She was on her way toward UCLA doctorate in ethnomusicology when the opportunity arose to join HPA’s faculty.

 

In college, Delaney was conductor and music director of the Columbia Clefhangers, a coed a cappella group from 2013-2016.  She has conducted several shows at the Aloha Theatre, the first when she was just 16 years old. She was formally the choir director for the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity. Assistant Director Erin Deskin and Music Director/Accompanist Dale Ross round out the KAS Music Team.

 

Tickets are available online at konaalohasingers.org. Advanced tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for keiki; while priced at $25 for adults and $7 for keiki at the door. Parking is free. The Kona Aloha Singers is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and is currently seeking donations.
