Pāhoa Transfer Station Fire Department Connection Repairs Begin June 16

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Environmental Management announces that repair work to the Fire Department Connection at the Pāhoa Transfer Station will begin on June 16. A Fire Department Connection allows firefighters to hook up their hoses and pump water directly into the system to help control a fire. The Pāhoa Transfer Station will remain open throughout construction, and all services will continue to be available.
The contractor, Isemoto Contracting, has been issued a Notice to Proceed and will complete this vital infrastructure repair. The project is expected to be finished within a month.
The construction area is located near the entrance to the transfer station and may impact access and traffic flow during the work period. Residents should expect temporary closures of some parking stalls and refuse bays, as well as the relocation of the appliance drop-off area. Traffic control signs and barriers will be in place to guide vehicles safely through the site. The public is advised to proceed with caution and aloha when entering and exiting the facility.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while this important work is completed.
