Mana Road Wildfire Update
Start Date: 11/7/2025
Location: Mana Road about seven miles from the Mauna Kea Access Road.
Acres: 2,100
Contained: 50%
Closures: Hilo side of Mana Road.
Highlights: Firefighters continue operations to contain the fire and prevent spread into the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge. Bulldozer operators today are working to complete firebreaks on the mauka side of the fire. Firebreaks are in place on the flanks and makai side. Units from the Hawaiʻi Fire Department, Hawaiʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and Pōhakuloa Training Area are maintaining the established perimeter while Hawaiʻi National Guard helicopters assist with extinguishing hotspots inside the burn area.
Personnel: 90. Agencies: Hawaiʻi Fire Department, Hawaiʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, County of Hawaiʻi Department of Public Works, Hawaiʻi National Guard, Pōhakuloa Training Area, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation Highways Division, and Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
Safety: The Daniel K. Inouye Highway and Mauna Kea Access Road are open, but drivers should be careful as some motorists may be distracted by the smoke. Drones and firefighting aircraft do not mix well and could lead to accidents or slow down wildfire operations. No residents or structures are threatened.
Residents with respiratory or other health concerns are advised to take the following precautions:
• Stay indoors with windows and doors closed.
• Use an air purifier or air conditioning unit.
• Avoid outdoor activity until air quality improves.
