FINAL UPDATE: Hawaiian Electric ends
Public Safety Power Shutoff watch
No PSPS implemented
HONOLULU, May 23, 2026 – With hazardous weather conditions easing, Hawaiian Electric has ended its Public Safety Power Shutoff watch.
Wind speeds and humidity levels are no longer in wildfire risk ranges across Hawaiian Electric’s service territories. Hawaiian Electric did not need to shut off power to customers under its PSPS program.
Crews on Maui will continue restoration efforts in West Maui. About 4,500 customers lost power after parts of a metal roof from a shed were blown into power lines this afternoon. Power was restored to about 3,100 customers but the remaining customers will be without electricity until crews can safely complete inspections tonight. This outage was NOT related to Hawaiian Electric’s PSPS program.
