WIND ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST THURSDAY…

  • WINDS…Northeast 20 to 35 mph with localized gusts near 50
    mph. Affected area includes Lanai, Kahoolawe, portions of
    Central Maui, including the Leeward Kohala and Volcano regions
    of the Big Island.

  • TIMING…through tonight.

  • IMPACTS…Winds this strong can make driving difficult,
    especially for high profile vehicles.
    Instructions: A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected. Motorists should use extra caution.
    Target Area:
    Big Island North and East
    Kohala
    South Big Island


HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF THE BIG
ISLAND…

.The current large north-northwest swell will hold through the
morning hours, then slowly decline this afternoon and tonight.
Surf is expected to drop below warning levels along north and west
facing shores of the smaller islands early this evening, but
advisory level surf will likely continue through Thursday in most
areas.

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST THURSDAY…

  • SURF…12 to 18 feet today, lowering to 10 to 15 tonight along
    exposed north facing shores.

  • TIMING…Through 6 AM Thursday.

  • IMPACTS…Moderate…Expect strong breaking waves, shore
    break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming
    difficult and dangerous.
    Instructions: Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.

    Big Island North and East
