Edwart Kobata Sr.
Edward Akira Kobata Sr., 98, of Hawi, died Jan. 8, 2022 at his residence. Born June 13, 1923, in Honolulu, he was a diesel mechanic in the Marshall Islands and other Pacific Islands, member of Operating Engineers in California, Club 100 and a U.S. Army veteran with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
Private services to be held.
He is survived by sons, Edward Kobata Jr. of Long Beach, California, Richard Kobata of Phoenix, Arizona, and Barry Kobata of Venice, California; daughters, Carolyn (Paul) Simonsen of Carmel, California, and Florence (Hiram) Higashida of Hawi; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
