Community: 12-12-22 Police Seek Identity of Suspect in Hilo Business Robbery

Hawai‘i Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for a robbery at a Hilo business on Tuesday morning, December 6, 2022.

At approximately 9:34 a.m., on December 6, Hilo patrol officers responded to a retail business in the 300 block of Kilauea Avenue, where a store associate reported that a male suspect fled the business with a stolen backpack and other items. The store associate attempted to stop the male suspect outside the store and the suspect brandished a knife-type object, threatening the store associate prior to fleeing the area on foot towards the Bayfront Soccer Fields.

The suspect is described as a local male with a medium build and dark skin, 6 feet tall, with a goatee. He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, jean pants, and a black-colored hat with the word “Hawaii” on it.

The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing this investigation, which is classified as a first-degree robbery.
