Eruption update for Thursday, December 15th at 7 in the morning.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports the eruption of Mauna Loa is currently in a pause and activity is confined within the vent of Fissure 3 and volcanic emissions are significantly reduced.  Spots of incandescence may remain near the vent, along channels, and at the flow front as the lava cools.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory continues to closely monitor Mauna Loa for signs of renewed activity.

No communities are at risk, and DKI Highway is not threatened at this time and remains open in both directions. 

Tonight is the last night the Lava Parking Area will be open.  The Lava Parking will close at midnight tonight.  Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area will remain open as a vantage point to observe Mauna Loa.
