The County of Hawaiʻi announces the launch of the Coastal Zone Management Atlas, a new online tool that helps the public explore the island’s coastal hazards and ecosystems.

Developed by the Planning Department with technical assistance from Tetra Tech, Inc., the atlas includes data layers and measurement tools on subjects such as coastal hazards and sea level rise, flood zones, coastal ecosystems, native forests and land cover, and more.

“The Coastal Zone Management Atlas empowers residents to make thoughtful decisions that help protect their property and our environment,” said Mayor Kimo Alameda, “and we encourage everyone to explore this new online resource.”

The creation of the atlas was supported by the Hawaiʻi Office of Planning and Sustainable Development, Coastal Zone Management Program, pursuant to an award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The atlas can be viewed at: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/4bf2aae3b12c4f30943097b191c014b5.

In addition, the Planning Department will be hosting two informational webinars to introduce the atlas, provide useful navigation tips and answer any questions.

The informational webinars will cover the same content on both days. The dates and registration links are below.
