Edward Yoshito Watanabe, 81, of Hawi died Oct. 15 at home. Born in Puunene, Maui, he was a retired teacher from Kohala Elementary School, member of the Kohala Senior Citizen Club, Kohala Nutrition Club and HSTA-Retired and a U.S. Army veteran. Private services. Survived by wife, Edna Watanabe of Hawi; son, Evan (Sweety) Watanabe of Wailuku, Maui; daughter, Kim (Kyle) Kawakami of Kahului, Maui; sister, Ann (Mark) Hiyakumoto of Richmond, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Richard (Carolyn) Nishimura and Ronald (Grace) Nishimura of Hilo and Glenn (Katherine West) Nishimura of Little Rock, Ark.; sister-in-law, Jennie (Robert) Hashiro of Kahului; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
