Hawaii men’s basketball team falls to UNLV in first mainland game of season
The Hawaii men’s basketball team came up short in its first mainland game of the season, falling 77-62 to UNLV at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev., on Wednesday night.
UH made a run at a 21-point second-half deficit, getting within eight points before the Runnin’ Rebels of the Mountain West Conference buckled down in a de facto home game about 15 minutes away from their Thomas and Mack Center. A few thousand fans turned out for the Rebels.
UH (5-3) took its second straight loss, while UNLV (9-0) maintained its unbeaten start to the year. The Rainbow Warriors were a step slow all night against the Rebels’ explosive perimeter players, who threw down several dunks.
