High Surf Advisory issued September 10 at 4:01AM HST expiring September 12 at 6:00PM HST by NWS Honolulu HI
Areas Affected: South Big Island; Maui Windward West; Big Island North and East; Molokai Windward; Windward Haleakala
Swell from Hurricane Olivia will gradually rise through Tuesday,
then rapidly rise Tuesday night as Olivia nears the Hawaiian
Islands. Surf will likely peak at warning levels Tuesday night
into Wednesday along east facing shores of Maui County and the
Big Island.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf
Advisory, which is in effect until 6 PM HST Wednesday.
- SURF…5 to 8 feet today, building to 10 to 14 feet Tuesday,
then rising to 12 to 20 ft Tuesday night. - TIMING…Building through Tuesday, peaking Tuesday night into
Wednesday. - IMPACTS…Moderate…Expect strong breaking waves, shore break,
and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult
and dangerous.
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by
ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect
recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels
to access surfing areas.
