Island Faith Center & Martin Luther King Events
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. community celebration committee in Kailua-Kona is gearing up for the 38th anniversary of the event, slated for Jan. 20, 2019, at the Old Kona Airport Park Maka‘eo Pavilion (the big pavilion).
A complimentary luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program, which is free and open to the public, starts at 1:15 p.m.
This celebration started in 1982; the late Frank Bramlett along with his wife, Mamie Bramlett, and Virginia Halliday paved the way for this annual observance to honor the great civil rights leader.
Mamie Bramlett, Halliday and Kathy Simmons along with volunteers planned and organized this event annually for many years, until it was necessary to form a committee because of its popularity. Since 2008, that committee of 12 people works and plans to bring the celebration to life each year.
For more information, contact Halliday at 325-1112 or Mamie Bramlett at 331-1448.
Island Faith Center invites the community to a special Christmas celebration with Christmas carols, special music, a Christmas movie and refreshments.
This free Christmas movie night is slated for 6 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 23) in the humanities room at Laupahoehoe Public Library.
“The Christmas celebration is one of the ways in which we hope to bless our community during this Christmas season,” said Pastor Mary Jo Stevenson Fullen.
It is Stevenson Fullen’s desire that Island Faith Center make a difference in the community by serving the people in practical ways and giving them a place to come for fellowship and to grow in their relationship with God.
Island Faith Center is a church plant from New Hope Christian Fellowship in Hilo and part of the Foursquare denomination.
