Friday Night Movie @ Kahilu Theatre. W. M. Keck Observatory and Canada-France-Hawaiʻi Telescope invite you to a free community screening of “Space, Hope and Charity” tomorrow night, Friday, February 9 @ 6 p.m. Following the film, you’ll have an opportunity for a Q&A with the star of the film, Charity Woodrum, film director Sandy Cummings, and Charity’s professor Dr. Scott Fisher, a former staff astronomer at Gemini Observatory.

The event is part of “Journey Through the Universe” – Hawai’i Island’s annual astronomy education program – which kicked off this week with 200 classroom visits and career panels at various local schools as well as public events such as this film screening.

 

About the Film. An award-winning independent documentary about Charity Woodrum, a young woman from Oregon whose dream of becoming an astrophysicist is nearly derailed when she suffers a devastating tragedy. Her world was destroyed. With help from friends old and new, she finds her way back to the distant galaxies where she feels most at peace. Watch the trailer
