Emily Gambalan, 81, of Kapaau died Aug. 29 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Paauhau, she was a retired housekeeper, formerly employed at Hawaii Palm Company, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Kohala Nursery, member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its bereavement committee and Na Kupuna of Hula Halau Kawehileimamoikawekiu ‘o Kohala. Visitation 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 29) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Halawa Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by daughters, Margaret Hoshida and Debbie (Robert) Ellazar of Kohala; brother, Louis (Phyllis) Malasig of Las Vegas; sisters, Josephine Naungayan of Kohala and Priscilla (Alan) Kaaekuahiwi of Waimea; sister-in-law, Linda Tagaca of Kohala; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
